The fault in our stars
I've finally gotten around to reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, and since starting it, have not been able to put it down. (Thanks to Juni for the book intro awhile ago and since then have been seeing it everywhere!) As sad as the circumstances are in the book, it constantly reminds me how precious our lives are, to live life to the fullest, and to be thankful for what I have because there are so many others without. Sometimes you don't realize or fully understand these things until you're personally affected by it.
So this quote isn't the usual "super positive / inspiring / motivational" thing as quotes floating around the Internet usually are, but what I like about it is that it brings me back to center. It's real. Our stars have fates that we can't even imagine, some of it great, some of it not so great. Call it stars, call it fate, or luck, destiny, a crapshoot, life's path, whatever. As much as our lives are based around choice, sometimes, we don't get to choose what happens to us. For some of us, life isn't always rainbows, butterflies, and "just be positive" quotes (although I do admit, that is one of my mantras). Sometimes, our stars deserve a good cursing! But instead of wallowing in defeat and blaming the things that are out of our control, we can choose to make the best out of every situation (yes, even the bad ones), and live generously by those encouraging, inspirational, motivational, and sappy quotes - and I find strength and solace in people who do.
Have you read The Fault in Our Stars, yet? What do you do when life gets you down?
